At a recent meeting of the Shrewsbury High School Hall of Fame Committee, 12 new members were inducted.
Among those elected was Gordon Warren, recently
retired coach and Athletic Director, who for over 37 years played such an important role in developing the Shrewsbury High
School Athletic Department into a formidable force at both the league, division and state levels.
Also elected were Thomas "Red" Breslin, class
of ’31, an outstanding 3-sport athlete; Forest Miner, class of ’41, a member of the National Schoolboy Championship Crew; Clifford Nordwell, class of ’46, an outstanding 3-sport athlete and captain of the basketball team; Walter Londergan, class of ’54, captain of the 1954 National Schoolboy Championship Crew, co-captain of
the Blackstone Valley Champion Football team and center on the Clark Tournament Champion basketball team; John Jasper, class
of ’60, leading scorer in Central Massachusetts Basketball Conference, league
champions, scored 44 points in one game (school record), 444 points in senior year(school record) and a member of the cross-country
track team; Roy Chesley, class of ’61, competed in baseball, track and
basketball, was Central Mass high jump champ – 6’2”, was selected a Class B (state) all-star and Central
Mass all-star on a team that was Central Mass and State Finalist 2 years running, losing only 4 games in the 2 years; Michael
Kelley, class of ’83, outstanding 3-sport athlete, quarterback of the football
team, captain of the basketball team and an outstanding baseball player; Mary-Beth Pelosky, class of ’85, Ann-Marie
(Pelosky) Poncet, class of ’85, the Pelosky twins were dominant tennis players, Jennifer (Grochowalski) Dadagian, class
of ’92, led the Shrewsbury track team to a state championship; and Joanna Nelson, class of ’95, an outstanding
softball pitcher, named a Fast Pitch World High School All-American, 3-time Telegram & Gazette all-star, had a career
51 wins, 460 strikeouts and as a senior batted .400.
A formal induction ceremony will be held at the
I.A.V.C. on Dewey Road in Shrewsbury on October 21, 2006. Tickets can be purchased
