In 1968 the Town of Shrewsbury, in response to the untimely passing of Francis
A. Bergstrom SHS long time football coach and its first athletic director, dedicated the athletic field at Shrewsbury High
School as Bergstrom Memorial Field.
When the new high school opened and the former high school was renovated
to become the new Oak Middle school Bergstrom Field became the new home for the Shrewsbury Colonials Youth Football and Cheer
program. With a new purpose, to be the training ground for our young student athletes, Bergstrom Field needs an official rededicating.
The new purpose is one that Francis (Swede) Bergstrom would be very pleased about as he firmly believed in the value of athletics
in helping ensure a successful future for the young scholar athletes of the Shrewsbury community.
There seems no more appropriate time to mark the 40th anniversary and rededication of Bergstrom Field than on a Sunday
afternoon in October between the 12:00 and 1:30 Shrewsbury Youth Football games. Please join me and 3 generations of the Bergstrom
family in this celebration to honor a man I am honored to say is my grandfather.
